Hi everyone. Glad you joined me in my discussion about New York Sports. I am a Giants fan as well as a Mets fan. I also watch and root for the Jets and Yankees.

Some say I can’t do that. I have to be a fan of one or the other in both sports. Let me tell you how easy it is…….. I LOVE baseball and football. I live in New Jersey and these are the teams I get to watch day in and day out. I have a little story to tell you also. I goes like this;

My dad was a HUGE Yankee fan. He lived and breathed Yankee pinstripes. Hated the Mets! As a kid, in the early 60’s, the New York Mets were born. Being 5 years old, I loved the colors and adopted the Mets as my team. Now, this did not change ANYTHING with my dad and his feelings. What did was later in life.

The Mets won the WORLD SERIES in 1969. THAT solidified my Mets fandom! This is where my pop’s thoughts started to change. I would sit and watch the Yankees with him and root for them as if it were the team I had always rooted for. Why you may ask? Simply because it was my DAD’s team!

I loved my dad and I rooted for every team he rooted for. When pop saw that, he began, slowley at first, rooting for the Mets. He told me once that I had taught him a lesson about “hatred” and it is only in the heart of the holder. Changing is an easier process than he thought it would be.

The New York Giants happened a little differently. Same start except my dad WAS a Giants fan. The difference was the fact that I rooted for the New York Jets and my dad didn’t. ( I liked Joe Namath) So, POP began rooting for the Jets with me when we watched them.

Now, don’t get me wrong here. When the Mets play the Yankees, I AM A METS FAN! When the Giants play the Jets, I AM A GIANTS FAN! I always root for the Jets and Yankess at ALL other times.

The moral of this story? There is none other than you can change the things you want to change. Bias is controllable if you wish to control it.
