Game 1 ALDS

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

Well it is only the bottom of the fifth and the score is 6-3 with Cleveland leading. I am not sure what Joe Torre was thinking when Derek Jeter was at bat with no outs and runners at 1st and 2nd. A bunt would have been the right thing in that situation. I hear you when you say Jeter is batting .500 against Sabathia. The only thing I say about that is the fact the Yankees are down by 2 runs. YOU GOTTA GET RUNS! Wang is giving the batters EVERYTHING! Cleveland seems to hit anything he throws!

UPDATE~~ Wang is out and the Yankees are not into the bullpen after 5 2/3 innings. This could get ugly!

It’s only fair that I give you my ingame analysis now that I am watching the Yankees playoff games. If you go back to the top of this post, Joe Torre managed the Yankees like an NL team when he first arrived. Result? How about some championships and World
Series triumphs. Why did he suddenly begin managing like an AL manager? This is not recent, BTW, this has been the last few years in which the Yankees went home early.

Don’t get me wrong here, I am not bashing Joe Torre. He has done a FANTASTIC job with the Yankees. My only question is why the change in coaching style?

Please leave your comments and I will see you tomorrow.

UPDATE~~ Not good. The score is now 9-3 going into the top of the 6th.

Yankees are in

Monday, October 1st, 2007

I could not keep my silence any more. The Yankees are in the playoffs and the METS are not thanks to the biggest choke since Jean van de Velde in the 1999 British open. The only difference is the Mets did not have to remove their pants to get out of the hazard they created. Good thing since Paul LoDuca would look terrible in his skivies!

The Yankees have given me a reason to watch baseball for the rest of this year.

Hopefully the Pitching will hold up!

Jets lose to Buffalo

Monday, October 1st, 2007

What can I say about the game? Chad Pennington was playing well until….the interseption. That ill-advised pass was a killer. I’m not even talking about the last one. The first was a pass which should never have been thrown! THAT my friends is not how games are won!

The Jets defense continues to do a GREAT job! They are preventing the opposition from moving the ball at crucial moments in the game. They are giving the offense a chance! What more can you ask from your defense?

No, before you ask, I am not getting off the Kellen Clemens thing here. Kellen is still the future of the Jets as I see it. As long as Chad Pennington continues to move the team, Chad should be the man! Kellen is the person you are looking at when Chad can no longer do it, or get it done!

The JETS come into GIANTS stadium next week. As you know, I am a GIANTS fan and my game review may be a little biased. Win or lose for either team, I PROMISE to be as unbiased as possible after the game! The JETS are a New York team and I wish them the best….except next week!

Okay, that’s it until next week. Good luck to the JETS!!

Giants beat the Eagles

Monday, October 1st, 2007

I didn’t think the Giants against the Eagles was going to be a pretty game. Donavan McNab was going to throw all over the place against a very suspect Giants secondary. BOY WAS I WRONG!

Giants regained the “D” in D E F E N S E! 12 sacks. Count ‘em folks! Osi Umenyiora had 6 by himself! So…how did this suddenly happen? Take a look at the second half of last weeks game against Washington. The Giants defense came up huge in the second half against the Redskins. It was like they all of a sudden “Got It”!

Steve Sagnuolo’s defense seems to be germinating with his side of the ball. The blitz package continuously put pressure on McNab. There were even coverage sacks as the maligned secondary kept Eagle receivers from getting open. There is a HUGE change in itself!

Eli Manning and the offense did not do fantastic although Eli had another very nice game. I have to attribute the lack of scoring to a very good Eagle defense. Eli hit Plaxico Buress for a touch down which was all they needed. The BEST thing was the throw up high where only Plax could get it! Why don’t they do that more often? Hey, Plasxico Buress is 6′ 5″, but he is usally against 5′ 10″ corners! That should be exploited more often! JMHO.

Back to the offense for a minute. Although they only scored the 1 touch down, they did move the ball and eat up time. Lawerence Tynes missed an extra point and a field goal. That didn’t matter but, it will some game. Derek Ward continues to fill in admirably for Brandon Jacobs, and we are still not sure what Jacobs can do, the running game still needs a little better production.

All in all I have to rate the game as a B+. It appears the PRIDE of the defense has returned. The offense was very good, but not great. That is the reason for my rating.

Next the Giants have “Gang Green” or the New York Jets coming in. The JETS just suffered an excruciating loss to Buffalo. Don’t think for a second this is a gimmie game. Chad Pennington is playing extremely well as well as the Jets defense. This will not be a push over for either team.

Be back next week with my unathorative review on my favorite NFL team! The NEW YORK GIANTS!
